We rocked
at 'Beached' in Scarborough on 15th August
We
hosted a day at the 'Beached' festival in Scarborough for British Forces,
their families, friends and veterans on Friday 15th August, profits went
to The Big Salute.
Bands
who kindly gave their time for free to support The Big Salute include
the Mexicolas, High Priests, The Domino State, Joanne Ramsay, Helium Soul,
and not forgetting Iraq 'n' Roll - a band formed on ops in Iraq who got
back together to play in the sand again.
The
festival took place from 14th-17th August 2008, from noon to midnight,
on the South Bay Beach in Scarborough. It attracted around 50,000 people
over the four days.
The Beached music festival has
been going for 8 years and played host to bands like The Hoosiers and
The Fratellis. It wasn't just sun, sand and great bands this year as Beached
decided to dedicate the event to the Big Salute to raising money for five
Forces charities.
BFBS
staff and Forces personnel sold Big Salute wristbands and t-shirts, and
rattled collecting buckets across the four days raising a whopping £1500
for The Big Salute!
The BFBS Big Salute has raised
over £50,000 since its launch in May for BLESMA, St Dunstan's, Veterans
Aid, Combat Stress and Headley Court.
Scarborough
is a Forces-friendly seaside resort, with many local businesses displaying
a ‘Heroes Welcome' sticker, and promising a warm welcome, and in some
cases a discount, to military personnel. Just show your ID. For more information,
