BFBS GURKHA RADIO EXPANDS UK COVERAGE

Gurkha soldiers and their families based in the UK are celebrating the switch-on of the latest BFBS Gurkha Radio transmitter.

248 Gurkha Signal Squadron, based in Stafford, now has access to BFBS Gurkha Radio on 1278 AM – the eighth local transmitter to cover Gurkha bases in the UK.  The squadron has a number of personnel currently on operational duty in Afghanistan, where BFBS Gurkha Radio has widespread coverage.

“The new transmitter means families left behind in Stafford can hear messages and news from loved ones in Afghanistan,” says Khem Gurung, General Manager of the BFBS Gurkha Service. “It also means they can keep in touch with the wider Gurkha community here in the UK, at home in Nepal and in Brunei, not to mention Gurkhas serving in Iraq.”

BFBS Gurkha Radio now covers Shorncliffe, Bramcote, Maidstone, Sandhurst, Brecon, York and Hullavington, as well as Stafford.

BFBS Radio is now on Freesat - Channel 786

 

BFBS Radio joins popular UK radio stations including Capital Radio, XFM and Classic FM to launch on Freesat, the free-to-air digital satellite TV and Radio service.

 

"Our arrival on Freesat Channel 786 has the potential to increase significantly the number of homes where our service can be heard," says BFBS Radio's Controller, Charles Foster.  "It means better connectivity between our forces serving overseas, especially in operational areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and families and friends at home."  More info

If you like Premiership football from Five Live, we've got it.  If you like incisive news, BFBS Radio 2 relays Today from BBC Radio 4.  BFBS Radio 2 then binds it all together with our own experienced presenters, covering stories that matter to the British Forces around the world. BFBS Gurkha Radio provides a mixture of Nepali and English language programming for Gurkha soldiers in the UK, Nepal, Brunei and operational areas.
