The Movie Machine The Movie Machine is guaranteed to evoke a jaw dropping 'WOW' whenever she's seen for the first time. This awesome vehicle leads a double life; sometimes she's a HGVI artic lorry with the most amazing paintwork and then she converts into an 80-seater cinema complete with Dolby Digital surround sound. There is no better place to lose yourself, while watching the latest box office hits after an arduous operational tour. At the moment this unique cinematic experience is providing a valuable service in Cyprus for the troops returning from Op's HERRICK and TELIC. Although this is almost a full-time requirement we still squeeze in visits to the UK UN Detachment serving on Op TOSCA on the other side of the island. The Movie Machine also provides an excellent venue for Command briefings and presentations with the comfort of air conditioning / heating and of course sound proofing! The Movie Machine was purchased by the SSVC Welfare Fund and gifted to the MoD in 2001 for service in the Balkans. She is kept in excellent condition thanks to the attention lavished upon her by operators Rick and Steve. Both have been with the Movie Machine since she was commissioned and during this time they have played more than 700 films which have been watched by over 110,000 service personnel. Those all important vital statistics... The Movie Machine was built by Toutenkamion in France. As a vehicle she stands 4m tall, is 16.5m in length and 2.55m wide. She opens out to an impressive 12m wide, occupying a hard standing of 25m x 20m in full cinema mode. Films are projected in traditional 35mm onto a 1.6m x 4m standard screen.
